Day 8 headed home

Started out pretty good until I received a call from mom saying that Delta called. Why the home phone I will never know. But our flight was cancelled and they put us on another one. Thus we hurried over. Well the time the plane was to leave they were still trying to find a plane for us. One finally came & we got loaded. Vicky behind me & went right to sleep. I had the passenger to the left passing gas & the small child in front of me that was upset the whole time. Thank you to I-pod & volume control. Leaving Moline we were coming around Davenport. I looked in the rear view mirror & saw a pickup come flying up behind us. Note: if you decide to exceed the speed limit by a great speed, make sure your hood is latched. All of a sudden while I was watching it the hood popped up and wrapped around the windshield. We then made it to Toledo to see Jess & the boys & then off to see dad.

Day 7 - Monday

We headed for Atlanta this morning to check out some attractions we didn't get last week. First stop was the Atlanta Historical Museum. This was a great stop!! We saw the history of the Civil War, the history of Native Americans in the south, and the 1996 Olympics. Being such an Olympics finatic, I was just so caught up in the whole display. Ken, Jarrod, and Tiffany were doing the kiosks of trivia. Tiffany rules!!! Taking the whole museum in was just awesome. By the way the arrow through your head probably didn't hurt Tiffany, ha ha.

Next stop was the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. This was one place I wanted to make sure we visited. Thanks Tiffany & Jarrod!! What an inspiring visit this was. The museum is truly a recommended visit. This needs to be on your top 100 list to see. The museum, the Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the burial site for Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King area so truly moving. You can't visit here and not be inspired.

We then headed to the hotel to check in and get something to eat. As much as we are ready to head home, it was tough saying good-bye. A big THANK YOU to Tiffany and Jarrod for a great vacation. We love you both so much and can't wait to see you both soon. September we hope, right Jarrod? Give the grandkitties a kiss and be safe always. Love Mom & Dad

Day 6 - Sunday

Sunday was a day of laundry and relaxation. We went out for supper and then went back downtown to the James Brown statue (no I'm not taller than James Brown). We also walked through the downtown median which has a beautiful fountain and some very rich history. We ended our day with some ice cream and back home to finish up the laundry. This has been the best vacation and our tour guides are just the best. Thanks Tiffany & Jarrod!!

Day 5 photos

Vacation Day 5

Day 5 started at the Farmer's Market. Quite a range of vegetables, fruits, and flowers for sale. We then took a walk down down the River Walk. We saw turtles, snakes, and beautiful homes. We hiked up the Amphitheatre steps, and I do mean hiked. It was a very beautiful stroll.

Next stop was by the textile mills. You can just feel the old, rich history around you. We then stopped at the River Canal Museum. We watched a short video on the history of the canal and then took a walk through the museum. It provided a history of the textile mills, canal, and the lives of the people of Augusta.

We then headed for Fort Gordon where Jarrod is stationed. We stopped for a quick lunch and then a driving tour of the base. We then headed to the store to get some groceries for a cookout.

Once we arrived home we decided it was a good time for a nap - - I love 2 hour naps.

Tiff & Jarrod's friends, Sarah & Hunter, stopped by for the cookout. Can't wait to eat!! Until tomorrow - everyone stay safe & love you all.

Dolphin video

If you listen closely you can hear it blow when it comes to the surface

Vacation Night 3 & Day 4

We went to a great restaurant on Night 3 - - Miyabi's. Great food and fantastic entertainment. We then headed downtown to see James Brown's statue. I believe I might be taller!! We went past the Augusta Golf Course where the Master's is held. Didn't see much as everything is pretty closed off.
After a stop for coffee, we were on our way to Charleston, SC. I want to say a big THANK YOU to our driver (drove through the heat, rain, and stupid drivers!!). And yes it was HOT.

We arrived in time to have lunch at Magnolia's. I highly recommend the BBQ! We then took a walk down to the waterfront and then a stroll down the pier. Very relaxing, even though it was HOT. Something caught my eye while watching a fisherman. Was it really what I thought it was? Yes, it was a dolphin. I wasn't sure we would see it again and then there were two. This was my first time seeing dolphins. Ken even go some video - - thanks honey!

We strolled back down the pier and had to stop for a swing in the giant swing. That was pretty cool, cuz it was HOT today. After getting back to the car we took a drive and saw some of the older homes and drove past the Charleston Market. This market, which was founded 1807, is where they would bring their goods to sell. It is now a large market (more or less a flea market) where people sell their crafts. You can just feel the history all around you.

Our drive led us over the Ravenel Bridge to Patriot's Point. This is where the USS Yorktown is docked here for touring. We made the decision to look at some of the guns, boats, & other relics and not to tour the Yorktown since we have been on the USS George Washington when Jarrod was stationed on that carrier. It was HOT and we all were getting pretty fed up with the heat. We did stop by the gift shop and left our mark! If we keep this up, we are going to have to buy another suitcase.
Ken will post more pictures of today's trip. We are having a great time!!

Atlanta Day 2

We started with a great breakfast at the hotel & our server Katie was the best. She made the whole stay worth while.

Our tour at CNN was great. The tour consists of seeing the studios "LIVE", get to see how they do the weather maps (green screen), have a picture taken at a CNN anchor desk, and then end up in the Turner Store. Even though we were just in the store yesterday, we left our mark once again. We did get to see some of the anchors, unfortunately not the ones we wanted. Highly recommend this tour if you like to watch CNN.

Next it was off to the aquarium to check out the sharks, manta ray, whales, sea horses, sea otters, jelly fish, piranha, and something we didn't expect to see. We saw great displays in tanks and aquariums. Some just took your breath away. The one thing we didn't expect was the Titanic Artifact Display is set up at the aquarium. If you have any interest in the Titanic - GO SEE THIS!! It was very interesting to walk through and see the actual artifacts from the wreckage. It was very moving to read some of the stories and then at the end see the wall of survivors vs. non-survivors. This is a once in a life-time opportunity and well worth it.

We are now at Tiff & Jarrod's just lounging and hanging out. Tomorrow we decided will be a "relax" day, unless we get bored. Miss everyone at home, but loving the R&R!! Check back for pictures.

Hot Spots in Atlanta

We arrived safely and Tiffany got us to the hotel fairly easily. After checking in and dropping our bags off, we headed for Centennial Olympic Park. I remember watching the Olympics in 1996 on television and seeing the bombing in the park. It is a beautiful place to start your Atlanta tour!

Next stop was the Coca Cola Museum. Highly recommend! This is an awesome facility to tour - - you can watch an actual bottling line, see lots of memoriabilia, and taste many different flavors of Coke from different countries. Some were very good, others not so good. Last stop was the Coca Cola Gift Shop. We found some great gifts to bring back home.

We stopped by the Aquarium to purchase our tickets for tomorrow (you don't have to wait in a long line if you purchase ahead of time). Then our next stop was the CNN Center. They weren't doing anymore tours for the day, so we will go back on Wednesday. We did make sure to support the Turner Store. Picked up more great gifts to bring back home.

Stop back to see more vacation photos.
